The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has declared Monday, August 25, 2025, as the first day of Rabi’ul Awwal 1447AH.
The announcement, conveyed through Professor Sambo Junaidu, Wazirin Sokoto and Chairman of the Sultanate Council Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, followed consultations with the National Moon Sighting Committee. It confirmed that the crescent moon was not sighted on Saturday, August 23, 2025, marking the 29th of Safar 1447AH.
As a result, Sunday, August 24, completes 30 days of Safar, with the Islamic calendar transitioning into Rabi’ul Awwal on Monday. The sacred month, which commemorates the birth of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), will feature nationwide prayers, sermons, and celebrations across mosques and Islamic centers.
