In a significant move ahead of the 2027 elections, opposition leaders have converged on the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as their unified political platform. This development follows a high-stakes meeting in Abuja, where former Senate President David Mark was appointed interim national chairman, and ex-Osun governor Rauf Aregbesola took on the role of interim national secretary.
The coalition boasts influential figures, including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rotimi Ameachi, and Nasir El-Rufai, all united in their quest to form a robust front against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). According to Aregbesola, the group’s primary objective is to establish an ideologically driven party, with a keen focus on education, security, and job creation.
The appointments are slated for confirmation at a follow-up meeting, initially scheduled to take place at Abuja Hotel. However, in a last-minute twist, the hotel canceled the venue, prompting the group to seek an alternative location.
