Russia Warns of Retaliation: Putin Condemns Ukraine’s Drone Strikes
Share this:

In a fiery statement issued today, Russian President Vladimir Putin denounced Ukraine for launching a series of drone attacks on Russian air bases housing strategic bombers, declaring that the strikes have obliterated prospects for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict. The remarks, delivered with uncharacteristic intensity, signal a potential escalation in the Russia-Ukraine war, raising concerns across Africa and the global community about the broader implications for regional stability and international diplomacy.

The Ukrainian operation, reported to have targeted five Russian airfields, including the Belaya airbase, involved 117 first-person-view kamikaze drones, destroying or damaging an estimated 34% of Russia’s strategic cruise missile carriers, including aging Tu-95 and Tu-22M bombers. Described by Ukrainian officials as a defensive response to Russian missile attacks on civilian targets, the operation has been hailed in some quarters as a tactical success, crippling a portion of Russia’s long-range strike capabilities.

However, Putin’s response suggests that Moscow views the strikes as a direct challenge to its military sovereignty, prompting a reevaluation of its strategic approach.

For Western nations, particularly those advocating for non-alignment, Putin’s statement raises alarms about the war’s potential to disrupt global trade, energy markets, and food security issues that disproportionately affect the continent.
