No Cancellation: WAEC Quashes Rumors About English Language Exam
Share this:

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Nigeria, has firmly debunked widespread rumours alleging the cancellation of the 2025 English Language paper in the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates.

In a statement released on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, and signed by Moyosola Adesina, anipr, Acting Head of Public Affairs, WAEC clarified that the purported press release dated Friday, May 30, 2025, which claims the English paper written on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, had been cancelled, did not emanate from the Council.

According to the Council, the misleading information widely circulated across various social media platforms  is the work of “mischief-makers” attempting to discredit WAEC and incite unnecessary panic among candidates, parents, and stakeholders.

WAEC reiterated its commitment to transparency and urged the public to rely solely on its official and verified social media handles and accredited media platforms for accurate updates. It also reminded stakeholders that all genuine press statements are issued and signed exclusively by the Public Affairs Department on behalf of the Head of National Office.
