United States Mission in Nigeria Disheartened Over the Gruesome Murder of Catholic Priest in Kaduna State

The United States Mission in Nigeria has expressed disheartening over the killing of Reverend Father Sylvester Okechukwu in Kaduna State.

From the information gathered, Okechukwu, was abducted on Tuesday, was later found dead. He was the pastor of St. Mary Catholic Church in Tachira, Kaura Local Government Area.

The Catholic Diocese of Kafanchan confirmed his tragic death on Wednesday. In a statement posted on its X account on Friday, the US Mission strongly condemned the killing, describing it as a “brutal and senseless” act of violence.

The mission extended heartfelt condolences to the late priest’s family, congregation, and community, acknowledging the immense loss.

“We strongly condemn this horrific act of violence.We extend our deepest condolences to the family, congregation, and community of Father Okechukwu, who have suffered an immeasurable loss,” the statement read.

The US Mission further urged Nigerian authorities to ensure that those responsible for the killing are brought to justice.
