The Anambra State Government has announced a ban on writing assignments inside textbooks, citing the practice as wasteful and unsustainable. According to the State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, the decision aims to make textbooks reusable, particularly for younger siblings of pupils who will need them in future classes.

Prof. Chuma-Udeh explained that the directive is part of the state government’s strategy to ease financial pressure on families while promoting quality and sustainable education. She emphasized the need for textbooks to be inclusive, reflecting diversity, equality, and the needs of all learners.

The Commissioner warned that the government will not tolerate non-compliance with the directive and urged parents, teachers, and school administrators to ensure strict adherence. Stakeholders are also encouraged to report cases of defaulters to the Ministry of Education.
