Aniekwe Joins Reps Push to Strengthen Nigeria’s Midstream Sector
Share this:

Asaba, Delta State — August 19, 2026: The House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum Resources (Midstream) has moved to strengthen accountability, transparency and effective oversight in Nigeria’s midstream petroleum sector. The commitment followed legislative retreats held in Asaba, Delta State, where members reviewed key challenges affecting the sector and explored practical measures to improve its performance.

Hon. Peter Udeogalanya Aniekwe (Macpee), Member representing Anambra East and West Federal Constituency and a member of the committee, called for a more proactive approach to legislative oversight. He stressed that lawmakers must go beyond relying solely on reports and presentations by engaging directly with operators, regulators and facilities to properly understand the realities and challenges within the industry.

The committee also resolved to strengthen enforcement of the Petroleum Industry Act, promote domestic gas utilisation and improve transparency across the midstream value chain. Discussions highlighted infrastructure gaps, pipeline security, vandalism, regulatory concerns and tariff issues as major challenges requiring urgent attention to boost energy security, industrial development and reliable energy supply across Nigeria.
