The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has sealed the premises of the collapsed Elite Five Star Hostel in Amaokpala, Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State, following the tragic incident that occurred on the night of Friday, July 26. The three-storey building, reportedly occupied by students of the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, caved in, raising fears that an unspecified number of occupants may still be trapped beneath the rubble.
Rescue operations are ongoing as emergency responders, supported by relevant security and rescue agencies, continue intensive search-and-rescue efforts at the scene. Heavy equipment and specialized personnel have been deployed to evacuate victims and ensure that everyone trapped is accounted for as quickly and safely as possible.
Authorities have urged residents to stay away from the disaster site to allow uninterrupted rescue operations. Meanwhile, the cause of the building collapse has not yet been officially established, with investigations expected to commence after rescue efforts are concluded.
