A Primary 3 pupil, Salami Aminat of Living Spring School, has gone viral after confidently declaring that “under Tinubu, garri is better than rice” during a school debate. Tasked with defending the motion that garri is better than rice, the young girl impressed her audience with exceptional confidence, eloquence, and stage presence. She opened her presentation by saying, “I’m here to convince and not confuse you that garri is much better than rice,” immediately capturing the attention of everyone present.
Backing her argument with practical examples, Aminat explained that garri is more affordable, easier to prepare, and can be consumed instantly with just water, unlike rice, which requires cooking and additional resources. She highlighted the versatility of garri, noting that it can be enjoyed with groundnuts, sugar, milk, beans, soup, fish, suya, and coconut. To reinforce her point, she even prepared and ate garri live during the debate, demonstrating its convenience in a way that delighted both the audience and online viewers.
She concluded her presentation with the memorable line, “Rice is for fancy, garri is for salvation. Rice is occasional, garri is dependable,” earning loud applause and widespread admiration. The video has since generated massive reactions on social media, with many Nigerians praising the young pupil’s confidence, creativity, and outstanding public speaking skills, while others debated the humorous reference to President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
