Katch Ononuju, Director General of The Heritage Centre, has alleged that the political relationship between the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu dates back to 2017 or 2018. Speaking during an interview on SYMFONI’s official YouTube channel, Ononuju claimed the alliance played a significant role in shaping political developments in Rivers State ahead of the 2019 and 2023 general elections.
According to him, the alleged partnership weakened the influence of former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi within the state, making it difficult for Amaechi’s political camp to produce a successful candidate under its party. Ononuju argued that the same political trend continued into the 2023 elections, insisting that Wike’s relationship with Tinubu had been in place long before it became widely discussed.
While sharing his views, Ononuju stressed that his main concern was not Wike’s political alignment but the need for greater accountability, good governance, and active democratic participation. He urged Nigerians to remain focused on the country’s future and to hold political leaders accountable, regardless of their alliances or party affiliations.
