A fresh controversy has emerged in Nigeria’s opposition politics following claims by Kenneth Okonkwo that the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) is closely aligned with President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking during an interview on Symfoni TV, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain alleged that the circumstances surrounding the formation and registration of the NDC raise serious questions about the party’s independence and political allegiance.
Okonkwo argued that any perceived connection between the NDC and the ruling establishment could undermine efforts to build a formidable opposition coalition ahead of future elections.
According to him, such developments risk creating divisions among opposition figures and weakening public confidence in alternative political platforms seeking to challenge the APC’s dominance.
The former Labour Party spokesperson also commented on the position of Peter Obi within the evolving political landscape, suggesting that ongoing coalition negotiations and party realignments have placed the former presidential candidate in a difficult situation.
Finally, Okonkwo maintained that the current political arrangements have created uncertainty about Obi’s next move, insisting that opposition leaders must prioritize unity, trust, and a clear political direction if they hope to mount a credible challenge in future electoral contests.
