Former Governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, has stated that the creation of state police could help tackle the worsening insecurity across northern Nigeria. Speaking during an interview with Premier Radio in Kano, Lamido said local policing would strengthen security operations because officers would better understand the terrain and communities under their watch.
The former governor, however, warned that decentralised policing must be backed by discipline, proper training, and accountability to avoid repeating existing security failures. According to him, insecurity in the region has been worsened by poor leadership, declining moral values, and the breakdown of social structures that once maintained order within communities.
Lamido further described the level of violence in Nigeria as unacceptable, stressing that there is no justification for the continuous bloodshed, kidnappings, and attacks affecting many northern states. He called on leaders and citizens across the region to unite and take collective responsibility in addressing the growing security crisis.
