If The Party Wants A Consensus, Let’s Have A Meeting–Amaechi
Share this:

According to a report by Vanguard on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has dismissed growing speculation suggesting that he is positioning himself for a vice-presidential role in the ongoing political discussions around the African Democratic Congress presidential ticket arrangement.

He stated that his political ambition remains strictly focused on the presidency, noting that he has no interest in stepping down to a deputy role.

His comments come at a time when internal party negotiations and alignments are being discussed among stakeholders ahead of future elections.

Amaechi made the clarification during a recent appearance on the podcast “Daily Politics” on Trust TV, where he spoke extensively on issues relating to party structure, internal decision-making, and emerging narratives about possible ticket combinations.

He used the opportunity to address public speculation linking him to a vice-presidential slot, stating that such discussions do not reflect his political direction or personal ambition.

According to him, attention should be placed on leadership at the highest level rather than secondary positions.

The former governor of Rivers State explained that his focus is on contesting for the presidency, adding that conversations around deputy positions often distract from the main political processes.

He emphasized that political discussions within parties should be guided by clarity of purpose and respect for individual aspirations.

Amaechi’s remarks were presented in the context of ongoing debates about how candidates may emerge within the party and how leadership roles will be shared among key political figures.

Amaechi also addressed the issue of consensus candidacy within the party, stating that any decision on a unified candidate must come through proper consultation and agreement among all relevant stakeholders.

He explained that consensus cannot be imposed by any single individual or group without the involvement of others who have interest in the political process.
