Lazeera News witnessed a story shared by a POS operator detailing how he recovered ₦80,000 from a man who allegedly scammed his salesgirl of ₦100,000 through a fake transfer transaction. According to the operator, the incident occurred when the man visited their POS stand and requested ₦100,000 in cash after claiming he had completed a bank transfer. Although no alert was received at the time, the man reportedly insisted he had already been debited, placing pressure on the salesgirl until she eventually handed over the cash.

The operator explained that the salesgirl had taken the man’s phone number and account details after the transaction. However, the account number he provided had only nine digits instead of the required ten. By the end of the business day, the ₦100,000 had still not reflected in the account. When she later contacted the number, the man allegedly laughed and blocked her. The POS operator said he decided not to hold the worker responsible for the loss, noting that her ₦15,000 salary could not cover such a large shortage.

About a year later, the operator said an unexpected opportunity arose when a customer came to the same POS stand to deposit ₦80,000 into an account bearing the same name as the suspected fraudster. Recognising the name, he asked his staff to inform the customer that the network was slow and that the transaction would be processed later. When the account holder was contacted, the operator confronted him over the earlier incident, after which the call reportedly ended abruptly. The ₦80,000 was then withheld, allowing the operator to recover part of the money previously lost in the alleged scam
