The National Defence College (NDC) Abuja has reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to regional peace and security with the launch of the ECOWAS Senior Mission Leaders Course. The strategic programme, aimed at strengthening peacekeeping and crisis management across West Africa, focuses on conflict prevention, crisis management, and post-conflict reconstruction. The course underscores the importance of diplomacy, cultural sensitivity, gender awareness, and sound strategic decision-making in modern peacekeeping.

In his opening address, Rear Admiral Abdullahi Ahmed, Commandant of NDC Abuja, emphasized the need for robust security measures to address prevailing challenges in the region. The course is designed to enhance participants’ capacity for strategic-level engagement, equipping them to tackle complex security threats. The programme brings together senior military and civilian officials from ECOWAS member states, fostering collaboration and cooperation in addressing shared security concerns.

The ECOWAS Senior Mission Leaders Course demonstrates Nigeria’s dedication to regional stability and highlights the country’s role as a key player in West African security affairs. As the region grapples with terrorism, instability, and humanitarian crises, the course aims to build a network of leaders equipped to respond effectively to emerging security challenges.
