JUST IN: Osun NNPP chairman resigns, joins another party
Share this:

The Osun State Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Dr Tosin Odeyemi, has resigned from the party and withdrawn support for its governorship candidate, Mr Taofeek Adeleke, ahead of the August 15, 2026 election.

Speaking with The Nation yesterday, Odeyemi said his decision was prompted by the lingering crisis at the party’s national level. He revealed that his resignation letter, submitted on Friday, triggered a wave of defections among other party executives.

Confirming his exit, Odeyemi stated: “It is true that I have quit the NNPP after six years. The reason is the protracted crisis facing the party nationally. After I resigned, several executives also tendered their letters, including Hon. Solape Olatunbosun (Deputy National Women Leader), Olalekan Fabayo (Southwest Zonal Secretary), Adegbaju Celestinah (Deputy State Secretary), Akinfala IfeOluwa (Welfare Secretary), Prophet Peter O. Blessed (Ife/Ijesa Senatorial Chairman), and Mrs Oladosu (Deputy State Women Leader).”

On the NNPP governorship candidate, Odeyemi was blunt: “We are not backing him. He should hold himself. The party has become a carcass following our exit.”

Odeyemi disclosed that he has been appointed Acting Chairman of the Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA) in Osun State, effective immediately. His appointment was confirmed in a letter signed by the National Chairman, Samuel M. Memeh, dated July 17, 2026.

He described his move to DLA as a strategic effort to reposition the party and strengthen its grassroots presence.
