A neurosurgeon, Dr. Mbanugo, was kidnapped by armed assailants along the New Nnewi-Oba Road in Uruagu Nnewi, Anambra State, on Thursday, October 30, 2025. The victim was abducted in the late hours of the day, and the incident was confirmed by a top official of the Nigeria Medical Association in Anambra State.
According to the official, who wished to remain anonymous, the kidnappers are being tracked, and relevant government agencies have been notified. The official urged the public to remain security-conscious and to remember Dr. Mbanugo in their prayers.
The Anambra State Police Command has launched an intensive investigation into the incident, with the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, directing tactical teams to ensure the safe rescue of the victim and the apprehension of the perpetrators. The command has assured the public that every effort is being made to resolve the case swiftly.
The CP has also called on residents, especially within Nnewi and its environs, to remain calm, vigilant, and supportive of the police by providing credible information that could assist in the investigation.
