Mr. Peter Obi, former Governor of Anambra State and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, donated ₦10 million to Archbishop Charles Heerey College of Health Sciences and Technology, Nkpor (ACHCOHSTEN), to support the institution’s infrastructural development. The donation was made during the college’s 20th anniversary celebration, which featured matriculation and convocation ceremonies.
Obi emphasized the critical global challenge of shortage of health professionals and stressed that Nigeria must train more competent hands to meet the rising demand. He encouraged the students to take their studies seriously and see themselves as potential global citizens who can contribute to Nigeria’s healthcare system and the world at large. Obi expressed his belief in the students, education, and building people and institutions. He also commended the management of ACHCOHSTEN for the quality of training being offered, citing his encounters with graduates of the college abroad who proudly introduced themselves as his former students.
The Provost of the College, Rev. Sr. Dr. Maria Uzochukwu Ozor, highlighted the institution’s achievements, including multiple accreditations and expansion into various departments. She praised Obi’s consistent support over the years, noting that he had donated two coaster buses and built a female hostel. The college presented Obi with an “Award of Excellence” in recognition of his contributions, and a commemorative book titled Growth and Wonder, authored by the Provost, was launched during the celebration.
