Four Mobile Police Officers have reportedly lost their lives following a surprised cross fire by suspected Fulani herdsmen in Udei, an agrarian community in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.
According to a source identified as Queen-Eva Doosh, the mobile police operatives deployed to the Udei community were notified by the locals of the plan by the herdsmen to launch an attack but they dismissed the Intel, insisting that herdsmen were not in the area talk less of planning an attack.
The police officers, according to the report, also warned the locals against taking matters into their own hands.
Ignoring the warning, the police officers, reportedly proceeded to the area where they were informed that the herdsmen were reportedly positioned ahead of the attack, while the youths stepped back to allow them to handle the situation.
Things took a tragic turn when the police on getting close to the area fired a warning shot into the air, and the attackers responded with deadly force, killing four officers on the spot.
