Former Kano State Governor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has reaffirmed his long-standing influence in Kano politics, insisting that his former deputy and successor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, remains his political son despite years of strained relations between them. Kwankwaso made the assertion while addressing supporters at his residence in Kano, where he responded to ongoing debates surrounding political loyalty and mentorship in the state.

Speaking on the controversy, Kwankwaso maintained that Ganduje’s political rise was closely tied to his guidance and leadership, stressing that their shared history in Kano’s political landscape cannot be dismissed. He challenged any attempt to rewrite that narrative, stating that it would be disrespectful for Ganduje to deny the role he played in shaping his political journey.

The remarks have reignited public discourse over the complex relationship between the two political figures, particularly amid renewed tensions within Kano’s political space. While Ganduje has previously rejected the “political son” label, insisting on a relationship based on partnership, Kwankwaso’s latest comments underscore his continued dominance and influence through his political structure in the state.
