Former Vice-President, Atiku Abubakar, has been declared the winner of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primary election held across wards in Abia State.

Lazeera News reports that Atiku polled 25,153 votes to defeat former Minister of Transportation and former Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi, who scored 18,339 votes.

Former presidential aspirant, Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, came third with 3,264 votes.

The result was announced on Monday by the Returning Officer, Onyebuchi Chukwu. The primary was conducted across different parts of Abia State and monitored by security agencies.

Reacting to the exercise, the Publicity Secretary of the ADC in Abia State, Francess Olisa Ogbonnaya, commended party members for their turnout and peaceful conduct.

She particularly praised members of the party in Arochukwu for participating peacefully in the primary.

In a related development, Atiku cruised to a resounding victory in the ADC presidential primary election conducted across the 23 local government areas of Sokoto State.

According to the results announced on Monday by the chief returning officer, Professor Aminu Abubakar, Atiku defeated Amaechi and Hayatu-Deen.

The former Vice President polled a total of 68,823 votes to emerge as the winner of the exercise; Hayatu-deen got 319 votes, while Amechi recorded 292 votes.
