Dele Momodu Reacts to Claims That Atiku Should Step Down
Share this:

A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, has clarified that all the political figures involved in the ongoing debate over generational leadership belong to the same political platform, stressing that none should be pressured to step down.

Momodu made this remark in reaction to a follower who called Atiku out to leave his position for younger politicians.

His reaction was contained in a post on his X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, April 18, 2026, where he defended former Vice President Atiku Abubakar against calls to step aside for younger politicians such as Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso.

Momodu emphasized that all the key figures mentioned are members of the ADC and are therefore entitled to pursue their ambitions within the party without undue pressure.

He argued that internal democracy requires allowing aspirants to test their popularity through established party processes rather than through public campaigns aimed at forcing withdrawals.

Reiterating his earlier stance, Momodu described Atiku as a “consummate democrat” who has remained committed to peaceful political engagement throughout his career.

He maintained that it would be unfair to single him out for criticism simply for choosing to remain politically active.

The ADC chieftain also warned against what he termed subtle attempts to sideline certain aspirants, noting that party members and supporters should instead focus on strengthening unity within the platform.

According to him, the presence of multiple high-profile figures within the ADC should be seen as a strength rather than a source of division, adding that a competitive but respectful internal process would ultimately benefit the party.

Momodu’s comments reflect growing conversations within the ADC as it positions itself ahead of future elections, with several prominent politicians now operating under its banner and seeking to shape its direction.
