Omabala’s Esteem Strengthened at Umueri Ofala Festival
Share this:

The Omabala region once again asserted its historic prominence and cultural distinction as His Royal Majesty, Igwe Emeka (Oke-Ebo II of Umueri), appeared in full Ofala regalia during the celebration of his 9th Ofala festival, marking 135 years of the revered Umueri Ofala tradition.

The ceremony, held at the royal palace on December 30, 2025, attracted sons and daughters of Omabala, traditional rulers, cultural leaders, in-laws, friends, and well-wishers, reaffirming the deep respect the region accords to its traditional institutions within the broader Igbo cultural heritage.

Among the distinguished personalities in attendance was the leadership of the Omabala Union, led by its Chairman, Dr. Chike Obidigbo (Osisioma Igbo). Their presence underscored the collective commitment of Omabala stakeholders to cultural preservation, unity, and progressive engagement.

The Omabala Union leadership used the occasion to further reinforce ongoing efforts aimed at promoting Igbo values, strengthening cultural education among the younger generation, encouraging community cohesion, and supporting initiatives that sustain the dignity and relevance of Omabala’s rich traditions.

In his address, Igwe Emeka described the Ofala festival as a timeless institution celebrated by Igbo traditional rulers across generations. He noted that his 9th Ofala celebration also marks the continuity of a 135-year-old Umueri legacy faithfully upheld by his predecessors. The monarch emphasized that beyond its ceremonial significance, Ofala remains a rallying point for the people of Omabala to reconnect with their roots, pay homage to traditional authority, and leverage cultural gatherings to foster development projects and collective advancement.

Finally, through such sustained cultural expressions and leadership collaboration, Omabala continues to strengthen its identity, promote unity, and project a heritage that commands enduring esteem.
