A tragic incident has occurred in Rivers State, Nigeria, where a police inspector, Victor Okus, allegedly shot and killed his colleague, Insp. Ibrahim Sani, and wounded another officer. The incident happened on January 18 at a supermarket in Port Harcourt, where the victims were on joint guard duty with military personnel.
The police spokesperson, CSP Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed that Okus has been arrested and is currently in custody. Preliminary investigations suggest that Okus opened fire on his colleagues, hitting them in the head and neck. The deceased officer’s remains have been deposited at the Military Hospital Mortuary, while the injured officer is receiving treatment.
The Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, has ordered a thorough investigation into the incident and advised officers to exercise utmost responsibility when handling firearms. Okus will face an orderly room trial to determine the motive behind the shooting and possible prosecution if found culpable.
