Two sisters, Obinna Precious Kelechi and Chinwendu Okorie, have appealed to Governor Alex Otti of Abia State, seeking protection from their uncle’s alleged attempts to evict them from their late father’s house in Amuzu community, Eluama Uzuakoli, Bende Local Government Area.
The sisters claim their uncle, citing cultural norms, told them they have no right to inherit their father’s property because they are women. They allege he broke into their home, trying to intimidate them out.
The incident highlights ongoing challenges to female inheritance rights in Nigeria. The sisters have appealed to the Abia State Government, the Ministry of Justice, and law enforcement agencies to intervene.
The Abia State Government has laws protecting inheritance rights, and the sisters are urging authorities to enforce them.
The uncle has not commented publicly. The sisters are seeking justice and protection to remain in their home.
