Social Justice and Human Development for Peace Initiative (JDPC) of the Catholic Archdiocese of Jos has donated 400 kits and responded to 284 suspected cholera cases in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau.
Ms Benedicta Daber, the Coordinator of JDPC, disclosed this during a close-out meeting of its Plateau Response to Rapid Emergency Development (RESTORED) project on Saturday in Jos.
She explained that the project, which lasted for three months, was supported by the Catholic Relief Services (CRS).
She added that the project also provided 90 latrine cleaning kits, disinfected 3,406 latrines and showers, chlorinated 26 wells, and conducted 102 household water safety tests in the locality.
“Through this project, we have reached 17,322 people with hygiene promotion, empowering them to take control of their health.
“The project responded to 284 cholera cases through Case Area Targeted Intervention (CATI), providing critical support to those in need.
“We distributed 400 cholera kits and 90 latrine cleaning kits, ensuring affected individuals and communities have access to essential supplies.
“We installed 33 handwashing stations in institutions and communities, encouraging good hygiene practices and rehabilitated one borehole serving 3,000 people, thereby increasing access to clean water,” she said.
Daber stated that the project had also supported 140 farmers with improved seeds and tools to promote climate-smart agriculture in the area.
She stated that the move aimed to enhance food security and resilience among farmers in the locality.
