Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has dismissed injury concerns over Viktor Gyökeres after the striker was substituted in Tuesday’s 2-0 Champions League victory over Athletic Bilbao.
The £64 million summer signing suffered a head clash with teammate Gabriel in the first half and continued with a bandage before being replaced by Leandro Trossard in the 65th minute. Arteta explained post-match that the change was purely tactical, noting Gyökeres had played many minutes recently.
Trossard justified the decision by assisting Gabriel Martinelli’s opener and scoring the second goal to secure Arsenal’s winning start in Group F. Arteta added that the Belgian’s energy and versatility were crucial against Bilbao’s high defensive line.
