Prof. Kate Omenugha, the substantive Vice Chancellor of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam, stated that she had officially assumed office on Tuesday, August 13, 2025. She described the day’s events, beginning with an offertory Mass, which she said was a solemn moment of thanksgiving to God and a humble request for His grace.

She expressed her gratitude and humility at the warm welcome she received from the University’s Golden Gate to the ETF Auditorium, describing it as a “Homecoming of Hearts” that celebrated shared dreams, love, and unity.

In her remarks at the auditorium, Prof. Omenugha emphasized the importance of love and the undeniable presence of God in the University. She urged the community to love the institution as they would their own homes and to consider whether their actions would make them proud if it were their household.

She highlighted that her confirmation as Vice Chancellor was not just a personal victory but also a triumph for young girls in the institution and beyond, demonstrating that women can excel in academic leadership. Prof. Omenugha noted that she carried this achievement not just for herself but for every woman striving to break barriers.

The Vice Chancellor extended an open hand to all who had aspired to the office, inviting them to collaborate in building the University. She assured students that they now had a mother on campus who would protect, listen to, and defend them. She pledged to provide globally competitive education and to prioritize welfare, including reviewing the University’s Condition of Service.

Prof. Omenugha expressed her gratitude to Governor Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo for entrusting the University to her leadership, describing it as the best choice for the State University. She concluded by affirming her commitment to building on the University’s 3Vs: Values, Viability, and Visibility, with gratitude, love, and God as her guiding principles.
