Datti Baba-Ahmed, Peter Obi’s running mate in the 2023 elections, has weighed in on the proposed opposition coalition, warning that without long-term strategy and selflessness, it will fail to challenge the political dominance of President Bola Tinubu.
“I haven’t seen anyone in this coalition willing to plan over 16 years or support another candidate for the greater good,” he said. “Everyone seems focused on their own ambition.”
Citing Tinubu’s political patience, Baba-Ahmed noted how Tinubu supported others—including Atiku in 2007, Ribadu in 2011, and Buhari from 2015—before finally claiming the presidency in 2023.
“To defeat Tinubu, you must do the unthinkable. If this coalition thinks it’s business as usual, it won’t work. It must be more about Nigeria and less about personal interest. Less talk, more action,” he warned.
