The chairman of Senate Committee on South East Development Commission, SEDC, and former Governor of Abia State, Orji Uzor Kalu, has revealed the reason behind Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje’s resignation as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
The sudden resignation of Ganduje as the APC national Chairman is generating quite a lot of reactions in the public space. Many Nigerians did not see that happening, but the ruling party has maintained that it was done in good faith.
Ganduje, a former two-term governor of Kano State, resigned from the party’s exalted position last week, citing urgent and personal matters. The APC said it had already put plans in motion to replace Ganduje and on Monday said it had accepted his resignation.
Speaking in an interview with Channels Television, Uzor Kalu said the former governor resigned on health grounds.
While the statement from him suggested health issues, Ganduje’s supporters tend to think that it’s beyond health issues. Some are of the opinion that it is political permutation, ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
There are also claims about the arrival of the National Leader of the New Nigerian Peoples Party, NNPP, Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to the APC, insisting Ganduje resignation is politically motivated.
But Kalu dismissed all this and insisted that Ganduje “is a very close friend of the President. And you know, if it’s not health issues, he cannot say it’s not health issues.
