EKEDC Wins Praise: Oba, Stakeholders Laud Power Delivery
Share this:

The Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, and other stakeholders have praised Eko Electric Distribution Company (EKEDC) for its commitment to improved electricity supply and service delivery. The commendation was given during the first EKEDC Stakeholders Engagement Forum, which was hosted by the Ajele Business Unit on Thursday in Lagos.

The Ajele District includes major parts of Lagos Island, such as Iga Idunganran, Oba’s Palace, Adeniji Adele, Idumagbo, and Broad Street.

Oba Akiolu, represented by Chief Adesoji Ajayi-Bembe, applauded EKEDC’s responsive customer service, infrastructure upgrades, and steady power distribution improvements across the district. He added that EKEDC deserves praise for its quick fault resolutions and commitment to ensuring greater electricity stability for residents.

However, the traditional ruler raised concerns about ageing electric poles and urged EKEDC to prioritise replacements, especially during the rainy season. He also pledged continued support from traditional leaders to tackle energy theft and protect EKEDC installations in the community.

The Oba urged Community Development Association leaders to discourage illegal connections and avoid unqualified personnel for electrical works. He advised residents to report faults through official channels and called on EKEDC to promptly resolve complaints to avoid hazards.

Mrs Rekhiat Momoh, Acting MD/CEO of EKEDC, represented by Mr Joseph Esenwa, thanked the Oba and stakeholders for their support. She assured the gathering of EKEDC’s continued dedication to safe, reliable electricity services for all communities under its coverage.

She highlighted that customer feedback guides investment in infrastructure and technology to enhance electricity supply and responsiveness.

Momoh appealed to residents to report electricity theft and illegal tampering, warning such acts raise costs for everyone. She also addressed the issue of abandoned bills and asked residents to inform EKEDC ahead of planned demolitions.
