The Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions on 20th March, received the audience of Mrs Ogochukwu Anene, widow of Late Mr Onyebuchi Anene and her Legal Team, and also a delegation of relatives of the murderer, ASP Adamu Buba, a police officer under F.C.T Command.
Recall that Distinguished Senator Victor Umeh on July 4, 2024 beseeched the Nigerian Senate for interventions into the matter which took place on May 22, 2024 involving his constituent, Mr Onyebuchi Anene, a native of Umuoramma Village in Awka, Anambra State and ASP Adamu Buba, a police officer under the F.C.T Command, within Kubwa where the latter brutally murdered the former, an only son of his parents and father of two kids, over an argument.
In the wisdom of the Senate, the Case was referred to the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions.
However, the Police after thorough investigation, had confessed to the crime by its officer, ASP Adamu Buba and in carrying out disciplinary measures, prosecuted/detained him.
Not withstanding, the widow of Late Mr Onyebuchi Anene and her Legal Team were on Thursday urged to accept the reconciliatory moves by the relatives of the police officer with the assurance that justice must be served for the peaceful rest of the deceased and the consolation of the bereaved family.
The Chairman of the Committee, Senator Neda Imasuen acknowledged the effort of Senator Victor Umeh in achieving justice for his slained constituent stressing that his Committee would engage with Senator Victor Umeh representing Anambra Central Senatorial District where Late Mr Onyebuchi Anene hailed from and Senator Ali Ndume representing Borno South Senatorial District where ASP Adamu Buba hails from, to negotiate proper compensations and reconciliation of both parties.
